The Life and Art of Salvador Dali “I always saw what others could not, but I never saw what others did.”- Salvador Dali Salvador Dali was a Spanish Artist and a surrealist icon. He has actually been said to be many things, a painter, writer, sculptor and even a filmmaker. Trying to see behind Dali’s art is an art in itself. Some of the decisions Dali made in his artwork are still a mystery, even said to be complete madness. Only Dali, if even, knows all the reasoning behind his artwork. For this reason, I chose to write about Salvador Dali. Yes, he is a bit questionable in what he portrays in his art, but it causes you to dig deeper and analyze what he might have been thinking at that exact moment as held the paintbrush, pencil, clay, or camera. Salvador Dali’s father, also named Salvador, had a strict way of raising him. He would discipline him in ways that would clash with that of his mothers. His mother, Felipa Domenech Ferres, was more about being indulged in his work and early eccentricities. Dali also had a sister named Ana Marie and a brother, Salvador, who was born nine months before Salvador but passed away.
