Selena Quintanilla was born in April 16, 1971 in Lake Jackson, Texas. Raised in Texas with one brother and a sister. Selena was the youngest in the Quintanilla family. She was a singer, songwriter, spokesperson, actress, and fashion designer. Selena began performing in her family band as a child. Around the age of 10, she became the lead singer in the band. She was known as the “Queen of Tejano”, a type of Mexican music that sounded like country music. Her family’s band started out playing at weddings and clubs in their native Texas featuring her brother Abraham on the bass guitar, her sister Suzette on drums, and her father being the group’s producer and manager. She performed a total of twelve times during that tour and in 1990 she also began touring the Southern states of America after that summer. The Selena! Live Tour was 26 performances and last from 1993 to 1994. It was a great success because she won her first grammy for her album, Live!, for The Best Mexican-American Album. The Amor Prohibido Tour was the biggest tour for Selena. It was a total of 43 performances and lasted from 1994 to 1995. She visited Mexico, South America, and North America during this tour. It was cancelled because she was shot and killed by one of her fans. This tour should have been her biggest because she was going to perform her new album she was working on in 39 different countries.
