The religious tradition that will be talked about throughout this paper is Sikhism. A basic overview will be given about what this tradition is all about and how it came to be. This paper will give a fair representation of Sikhism. Sikhism will also be compared and contrast to another religious tradition. The other religious tradition is Christianity. Christianity is a religious tradition that I practice. These two traditions will be evaluated carefully and will have a fair comparison to one another as well.

The Guru Granth Sahib is somewhat like the Bible for the Sikhs. The scriptures have many hymns and prayers that were recited by the ten gurus (“Sri Guru Granth Sahib”). One of the ten gurus helped put all the hymns and prayers together. The guru that helped put this together was Adi Granth. He made sure that everything was neat and polished. The finished product contained a large amount of verses and pages. The number of pages in the Guru Granth Sahib are 1,430, while the number of verses are 5,864 (“Sri Guru Granth Sahib”). One of the most important things about the Guru Granth Sahib is that it reveals many things to the people. It describes the importance of meditation. Mediation is an important way to connect with their God. It also used so “salvation can be obtained” for the people (“Sri Guru Granth Sahib”). This holy book also focuses on obtaining the truth. The Sikhs often want to obtain the truth to become closer with their God, but they must meet certain requirements in order to do so. To become a “person of truth”, one must live a life that is meaningful and prosperous (“Sri Guru Granth Sahib”). This place of worship is called Gurdwara. The meaning of Gurdwara is “the residence of the Guru” or it could also mean “the door that leads to the Guru” (“The Gurdwara”). The Gurdwara was built by one of the ten gurus. Guru Narank was the one who built the “the first Gurdwara in the world” (“The Gurdwara”). The Guru Granth Sahib must be present in order for the Gurdwara to gain its religious status (“The Gurdwara”). The Gurdwara serves a great purpose to the Sikh community. It is used for many different things in many different ways. This holy place of worship is used for children to learn about the Sikh faith, spiritual wisdom, religious ceremonies, and a shelter that offers food and companionship for those in great need (“The Gurdwara”). The interior of the Gurdwara is simple, yet elegant. It is not too overtop like other religious places maybe. The Gurdwara have no idols, statues, religious pictures, and ritualistic devices (“The Gurdwara”). The only thing that is allowed inside the Gurdwara is the Guru Granth Sahib because it is held in such high regard. This holy book is kept inside a room at night and during the day it is brought out for worship (“The Gurdwara”). During worship, the Guru Granth Sahib is placed on a platform that is under a canopy and a person waves it with a fan; but when it is not being read, then it is covered with an expensive cloth (“The Gurdwara”). The Gurdwara has four doors that a
