One of the greatest director ever to live is an independent filmmaker. Spike Lee work in film have revolutionized the industry of filmmaking and independent filmmaker. Spike Lee films were not just revolutionary, they were healing in a way. Spike lee movies spark a generation of black and brown filmmaker. He is just one of the few black filmmakers, who was able to open up a new opportunity for black and brown people in the filmmaking industry. After spending only a few years in Atlanta, his family and spike lee soon moved to Brooklyn, New York. Lee grow up in a predominantly African American family. Spike Lee’s father was a jazz musician and his mother was a school teacher. He was very aware of his identity as an African American male in America. He always tried to incorporate the black experience in his films. Lee was making amateur films by the age of 20 years old. Lee’s first film last hustle in Brooklyn was a student film. He completed this film when he was an undergraduate at Morehouse college. He produced and directed a total of 8 film, when he studied at Morehouse. It was called “Malcolm X”. This film was one of the best movies among the African American community. It was a film about one of the most influential black national leaders, Malcolm X. It started two of the most talented actors and actress in Denzel Washington and Angela Bassett. It became a personal mission for spike lee to bring the story of Malcolm X on screen. Malcolm x was a very important person to Spike Lee. This movie won a lot of awards for both Spike Lee and the cast. The movie was split into three different acts in Malcolm X life. The first act followed his early years as a child. The second act followed his transformative years in jail, when he converted to Islam.
