Fitzgerald was born in the year 1896 in Minnesota. The Great Gatsby was written during the roaring twenties, or the Jazz age which Fitzgerald captures well in the book. The Great Gatsby is narrated by Nick Carraway. Nick is a Yale graduate from Minnesota and moved to West Egg to pursue the bond business. Fitzgerald depicts the darker side of the American dream through the characters Gatsby, Tom Buchannan, and George and Myrtle Wilson. Firstly, Fitzgerald depicts the darker side of the American dream through Gatsby. Gatsby is a clear-cut example of the American dream.
