The American Dream The American Dream seems exciting, but sometimes it can cause big problems, like making people take actions and hurting others. The American Dream is a game where everyone wants to win. But sometimes, people forget to play fair. They might cheat or be mean to others just to get what they want. That's not nice, and it hurts everyone. The American dream is destroyed. The American Dream makes individuals chase something that is extremely unrealistic and makes people change into doing bad things for it. For example, in the book The Great Gatsby, Nick says "So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past" (Figgar 189). It's just unfair how some people with money and power cheat to get their kids into college. This is unfair because it takes spots away from students who worked hard and deserve to get in. Sometimes when people are too focused on success, they can do bad things that hurt others and make the system unfair. Now taking a deeper look into how the American dream destroys the song Jack and Diane Shoes when he says "Hold on to sixteen as long as you can, changes come around real soon making us women and men." They want to stay young and carefree, but life keeps moving forward, and they have to grow up. This song reminds us that growing up isn't always easy, and sometimes our dreams and innocence can get lost along the way; once you're grown up, there is nothing to chase besides the American Dream, and will soon get lost in the cycle of trying to grab something that isn't there.
