After reading the novel The Hounds of the Baskervilles written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, our class watched the screenplay of The Hounds of the Baskervilles by Ernest Pascal. The screenplay was different than the novel because a lot of scenes that were not shown in the book are added to the screenplay. When making the screenplay, one example of a scene that was not in the book is when Sherlock Holmes disguised himself as Seldon. Seldon was in prison, but escaped, and was known to be hiding on the moor. In the novel, we learn that Holmes was living in a prehistoric house on the moor. Watson was on the moor and saw that was fixed up and could be hiding the stranger who was seen on the tor. Watson had evidence a man was living there because there were, “Some blankets rolled in a waterproof lay upon that very stone slab which neolithic man had once slumbered. The ashes of a fire were heaped in a rude gate. Beside it lay some cooking utensils and a bucket of half full water,” (Page 170). When Watson observed further on, he heard the noise of a boot on the floor and then a voice he would never forget, Sherlock Holmes’ voice. In the screenplay when Watson goes into one of the huts, he sees a face that looks like Seldon but is actually Holmes with a mask on. …show more content…

Little did anyone, besides Sherlock, know that Stapleton was the one who was trying to murder Sir Henry. When Sir Henry was left alone with a maid and Stapleton, Stapleton told the maid that he needed some warm water and while she was gone, Stapleton put poison into Sir Henry’s water. Sir Henry was about to drink the glass of water when Holmes interrupted the scene and “accidentally” knocked the water out of Sir Henry’s hand, onto the floor. In the book, nothing is mentioned that Stapleton tried to poison Sir Henry after the hound had not succeeded to eliminate Sir
