The Tuskegee Airmen “The eyes of your country and the eyes of your people are upon you. The success of the venture depends on you. “ The Tuskegee Airmen were young and dedicated men that were thought to lack skill and education. Those who had the physical and mental qualifications were accepted to be pilots, bombardiers, and navigators. ( “Tuskegee” ) The Tuskegee airmen were very patriotic and wanted to serve for their country. The young black americans were known as the Tuskegee Airmen. Booker T. Washington started building Tuskegee in 1881. Washington was the principal at Tuskegee until his death in 1915. A Lot of pilots went that school because it had a very good engineering program (“United”). The students would go to school then go to Moton field training program. In 1920 the focus started to be more on education than flying (“Tuskegee”). When they first started training they first had to prove they could work on a machine. The training center that they went to at first was far away, so they made a training center right beside the university so it can be more convenient(“Smith”). Benjamin O. Davis was told to be the instructor and commander of the new flight program(“Brooks”). The Airmen with physical learning were pilots and those with cadet training were bombardiers(“Tuskegee”) During the time of 1941 and 1946 1,000 pilots were trained(“Tuskegee”).
