Many people often struggle through life and artists like Vincent Van Gogh are no exception to this. Vincent Van Gogh was a highly influential 20th-century artist even though he suffered from a mental illness (“Vincent Van Gogh”). He was commonly unknown throughout his life as he was impoverished and suffered from mental illness, which were major themes in his paintings (“Vincent Van Gogh”). He suffered from a mental illness and experienced a challenging life, but he was able to transfer his pain to beautiful paintings and one of his more famous paintings, “Starry Night,” shows this with its beauty, emotion, and color inscribed in it (“Vincent Van Gogh”). Beauty can come from some of the darkest places and the painting “Starry Night” was no exception since it was painted in an asylum in Saint-Rémy, France, when Vincent was at his lowest (Blumer 519).
