High School Athletes Should Play Multiple Sports
Have you ever wondered why NFL athletes are remarkably athletic? People come to the conclusion that they’re athletic because of their mentality, weight, and height. However, the main reason behind this is because most NFL players are multi-sport athletes. 88.9% of the 1st round draft picks in the 2022 NFL were multi-sport athletes in high school. We high school athletes should use NFL players as a guide to becoming great athletes in the future. Playing multiple sports can help you in many ways if you're trying to pursue a sport. High school athletes should play multiple sports because multi-sport helps with athletic development, reduces the chances of injury, and college coaches prefer signing recruits that are multi- sport athletes.
One reason why high school athletes should play multiple sports is because it helps with athlete development . When athletes play multiple sports growing up they tend to produce a foundation and skill set that will be far superior than an athlete that has only been exposed to one sport. Athletes that have acquired skills from one sport are able to transmit it to multiple sports. The article “ The American Journal Of Sports Medicine” studied two hundred thirty-seven high school athletes that later went on to play in the NBA . 36 (15%) of the athletes were multi-sport athletes and the remaining 201(85%) were single-sport athletes . The article shows that the multi-sport cohort had greater percentages of total games (78.4% vs 72.8%). The multi-sport cohort were less likely to sustain a major injury during their career.
