Reserch Research Personal Statement

Research has always been an area that I have been fascinated with. It first started with an extracurricular high school program in Talented and Gifted, S.E.A.R.C.H. Here students would test the quality and pollution levels of Hubbard River and later on, brainstorm ideas about what could they do to improve the quality of water making it more hospitable to a variety of organisms. We would then classify and do research regarding the organisms that currently lived in that niche and observe trends throughout multiple years to see trends in specific populations. This first research encounter fed my inquisitive personality and led to me explore more intricate research methods. It made me realize that I am perseverant, think outside of the box, and …show more content…

My interest expatiated beyond the environmental and water quality testing, as I began to delve deep into the intricate systems of the human body. My laboratory experience in biochemistry, microbiology, pathogenicity created the foundation on which I further expanded my knowledge. I learned that without solidifying basic concepts, it is impossible to understand complex ideas. Throughout my undergraduate career, I was part of two research groups that gave me the background of bench research, exposing me to numerous research methods. One of the research project that I worked on focused on various ways and techniques of creating polymers, like PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride) which is used in many diagnostic tools, like Western Blots. By perfecting the technique of creating pure polymers the results of these techniques will be more accurate in the future. The other undergraduate research group strengthened my writing skills as I edited grant proposals and cited sources correctly. It focused more on finding the right support of your hypothesis through research and supporting your evidence with what has already been
