As I settle in to begin writing this personal essay, I cannot help but think back on the past four years I spent in college. Attending Boston College has been a fantastic opportunity and an experience encompassing both highs and lows. Boston College has given me gifts and a wealth of knowledge regarding myself and the world. Due to the many difficulties and opportunities presented to me, I have adopted some beliefs that now direct how I live my life.
Acceptance is one of the fundamental principles that drive and guide me in how I live my life. The philosophy of acceptance is a quote from Mitch Albom's novel "Tuesdays with Morrie," in which Morrie guides the reader to …show more content…

However, the most important beliefs are acceptance, love, and resilience. In Tuesdays with Morrie, Albom says, "I give myself a good cry if I need it, but then I concentrate on all the good things that are still in my life" (57). This quotation emphasizes the significance of having a resilient mindset in one's life. It is crucial to pick yourself up and tackle it again after experiencing failure or disappointment because life can be difficult. Finding the fortitude to keep going despite challenging circumstances is essential to resilience. It is about having the ability to concentrate on the positive aspects of one's life and expressing gratitude for such aspects. There will be days waking up may prove to be the most difficult. I have gained a better understanding of the significance of being a servant-leader, embracing vulnerability, and welcoming diversity and inclusiveness due to participating in these programs. A leader who serves others and sets an example for others to follow is a crucial indicator of being a servant-leader. Of course, servant leadership has other characteristics; however, as mentioned before, servant leadership is about lifting others. Vulnerability's fundamental component is being open and honest with oneself and others.
