Effects of resistance training on bone density at different stages of one’s life
Introduction
The goal of this research paper is to see if there is a link between resistance training (weight-lifting), age, and the effect it has on one’s body, in particular ones bone density and bone strength. I will be looking to see if there is definitive evidence in support or against resistance training at adolescence, middle age, and elderly, and also look at a few other groups such as those with osteoporosis, diabetes and post-menopausal women. This is an important subject, as it is becoming a more growing concern that people are not getting enough exercise. “By the year 2030 approximately 30% of the US population will be elderly and will potentially experience some health problems as well as loss of function.”(Hunter, McCarthy, & Bamman, 2004, p.330) It is also a relevant subject for me as I like to do resistive training and am looking to see how it is effecting my bones and my body as a whole.

Guadalupe-Grau, Fuentes, Guerra & Calbet (2009) stated, ” “The use of animal models to study bone adaptation to exercise is based on the fact that similar mechanisms control bone formation and resorption in animals and humans.” (Guadalupe-Grau et all, 2009, p. 442). This form of study is how I will get a lot of my research for answering my question, but will also use studies performed directly on humans of different ages. I have found many studies related directly to different age groups and resistive training, which will be used extensively to answer my
