Respect For Juveniles

189 Words1 Pages
You are correct Joshua, the word respect just does not have the kind of weight like it used to have. These juveniles want the respect, but they do not know how to give it or get it. No one has taught them that respect is something that you earn. They think they are automatically supposed to get it. When speaking to a juvenile about the respect, they will say “just because you are older than me does not mean I am supposed to respect you”, that is incorrect. That is where the guidance comes in. There is no one to guide them in the right direction. I am also not a fan of the “scared straight” programs. Those children that get involved in those shows know that the inmates cannot physically touch them. Therefore, there is no real reason to be scared.
