The colonists desired a sense of freedom and power that was not obtained by the sovereign rule of England, so they instituted an improved governmental system that resolved most of their concerns, but was not without faults. The way England was controlling and monarchially put doubts and frustration in the minds of the commonfolk in America who felt used and dissatisfied (Doc 1). As a result, the Declaration of Independence was written that renounced the jurisdiction of Great Britain and gave themselves the independence. This also had the negative impact of the descent into fighting and the allegiance issue (Doc 2). Shown in document 3, there was a separation of the population in the colonies because some remained loyal to the crown.
When you are born you are given natural rights. John Locke once said that we have the right to life, liberty, and property. Well, King George III and the british parliament did everything in their power to take these freedoms from the colonist. The colonist put up with this at first, but as they starting listening to patriot authors and using their own reason, they realized they were being cheated of their natural rights and freedoms. Two of these patriot authors, being Thomas Jefferson and John Dickinson, wrote in Continental Congress; “In our own native land, in defence of the freedom that is our birthright, and which we ever enjoyed till the late violation of it- for the protection of our property, acquired solely by the honest industry of our forefathers and ourselves, against violence actually offered, we have taken up arms” (Document 2).
It was written to protect the colonist from King George III. He had strict laws and high taxes. The Declaration was final in 1776; Has three parts: an introduction paragraph that states reasons why this document was created. Then, it lists in order the grievances against King George III. Finally, the colonists give a name to their new born country.
Thomas Jefferson Paragraph The Declaration of Independence and Jefferson’s letter on Shays rebellion show evidence that Jefferson would support modern day protests. From Jefferson’s letter about Shays rebellion “what country before ever existed without a rebellion”. This supports the claim because Jefferson believes rebellions are important and rebelling and protesting are similar because they both go against what people are saying is right. From the Declaration of Independence “no soldier shall, in time of piece, be quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner…so important to the founders”. Over the course of American history, society has dealt with many flaws, and dilemmas. In Source B, it illustrates that Abigail Adams, John’s wife, wanted the Continental Congress to remember the ladies when they write The Declaration of Independence. In Source C, it rationalizes how slaves didn’t have equal rights as white men, and the petition is trying to give their natural rights back. Furthermore, in Source D, a miniseries that depicted John Adams life, given particular the Revolutionary War. This source allows the viewer to visualize the conflicts that the Continental Congress had, with the colonists, and the British.
At the end of the French and Indian war, King George could not take such utter disrespect. The British started to put in new laws and boundaries in place that ultimately would hurt every party that was involved with them. The British had lost a tremendous amount money as well as the French did paying off the money to wartime debt. Lots of Indians lost their lives and had the land taken away from them. The American colonist are the only ones out of the seven year war to come out somewhat unscaled.
(Add dates) From the late 1760’s to July 4, 1776, American Colonists moved from merely protesting the decisions of King and Parliament to a Declaration of Independence and a Revolutionary War. (Remove caused socially, politically and economically). Colonists thought that they had no rights; their freedom was limited, causing many of the colonists to rebel, the quartering act required them to quarter soldiers showing that their freedom was limited. The Quartering Act (1765, 1774) stated “if there shall not be sufficient room in these barracks, then in such a case the soldiers must be quartered in the homes of the people in the colony” (Doc 5).
“Give me liberty or give me death!” This well-known slash from Patrick Henry against British taxation forced upon American colonies is a great example of one of many reasons that sparked the passion to write the declaration. British rule diminished American colonist’s political, economic, and religious freedoms. Many hesitated to support independence because they feared the power of Britain but were soon convinced that something had to give. The colonists were convinced through the words of the famous Samuel Adams, Patrick Henry, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson.
The Declaration of Independence explains why the colonists had a right to revolt against and become independent from England. However, after numerous attempts to reason with the King, the colonists contested the violations of the Parliament based upon English liberty. In June, 1776, after years of not being heard, The Second Continental Congress appointed five delegates to produce a formal written declaration of independence. Was this fair? In my option, yes.
By using The Declaration Of Independence ans Jefferson's letter about Shay's Rebellion I can prove that Thomas Jefferson would likely support modern day protest. In the letter it states, "What country before ever existed without a rebellion." This supports my claim because he supports that there was no country in the world that didn't have any kind of disagreement. According to The Declaration Of Independence it states, "...all men are created equal." This also supports my claim because if all men are created equally then people would have the right to say what is on their mind.
One line by Jefferson stated that, “He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.” This grievance is specifically targeted towards King George III, as his irrational thinking left the American people without any representation at all. The Declaration of Independence: An unsuccessful validation for deceitfulness and treason Thomas Jefferson and the Sons of Liberty failed to justify treason and war when composing the Declaration. Lets begin by clarifying that the colonies had been for long a land of lawlessness, chaos and disorder, where people smuggled to avoid taxes. One perfect example is John Hancock of Massachussetts, who was a very known politician and smuggler. He was even arrested for it and colonist started riots, to set him free so they could be able to purchase his illegal goods (Tea). The Crown, when seeing all the smuggling going on, they decided to sell Tea at a lower cost than the smuggled tea.

Unalienable rights are rights that you are born with which include having freedom of speech, etc. This right is referred to as “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” (statement of beliefs) in the Declaration of Independence. This phrase is quite popular and is known to give examples of having rights that are given since birth. Under the rule of Great Britain, Colonists were not able to have these rights. The document states, “King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States” (statement of beliefs).

The Declaration of Independence is a written version of our rights as humans in America. It is saying that every person is equal, with equal opportunities. The people are given rights at birth that can not be taken away. The document gives all the “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” as basic human rights.
