Revenge is something that is very difficult to prove as being the correct way to handle something or an awful way to handle it. Master Jacob wanted revenge and he went over the top to deal with the rogues, but I believe that it was justified. In “Master Jacob” by Howard Pyle in paragraph twenty eight it states, “So there was an end of the matter, and Master Jacob had to march off home without his pig and with no more in his pockets than he had before.” Later in the text it states, “So they bargained and bargained till the upshot of the matter was that they paid Master Jacob fifty dollars, and marched off with the goat as pleased as pleased could be” (paragraph 45). In paragraph sixty six it states, “‘We’ll put him in prison right away,’ said they, and off they went to do as they said.” Near the end of the text it states, “and there was an end of number one… and there was an end of number two… and there was an end of number three… they paid a pretty penny for it” (paragraph 81-85). In the first two pieces of text evidence it shows how the rogues were going to take Master Jacob to jail. They were going to take him to jail after the times that Master Jacob scammed them out of their money. Because of their position nobody else would have had a say in what happened to Master Jacob most likely. In the third piece of textual evidence it states how the three rogues all died and they “paid a pretty penny” which is paying for something that is expensive, and in this case they paid with their lives. The reason that I believe it is justified what Master Jacob did to the rogues is because they most likely would have locked him up for life or killed him, so the only way to stop that from happening was to kill the rogues. In conclusion, Master Jacob was scammed and threatened to be thrown in prison, so he handled the situation
