Proctor’s Opposition to His Society In the book, The Crucible, Arthur Miller introduces us to John Proctor. Proctor is married and simple, yet he's argumentative toward his town for the persecution of “witches.” Proctor faces conflict throughout the town, his morals are challenged and his view on ethical implication are changing.

Obi was climbing up the rope that look like stairs.
In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Miller introduces the idea, apparent in today’s world, that sometimes people blame others to save themselves from punishment through the characters’ actions and the asides from Miller. The most prominent character that displays this theme is Abigail Williams. Several times Abigail pushes the blame on others when she senses trouble. When Parris finds the girls dancing in the forest, Abigail knows she has to do something to avoid punishment.
The Crucible by Arthur Miller is a dramatic play that expresses a very important message and that is how far people would go to save themselves from the hands of death. There are many characters in the Crucible who are guilty of taking innocent lives, but there are three major characters who, without a doubt, are the most at blame. The play takes place in the city of Salem, a city filled with people that would do anything to keep their reputation clean. Throughout the play, Miller is introducing multiple characters that experience changes in their decisions and negatively influence more people eventually leading up to the witch trials. The main point that the story revolves around is that people would rather lie and blame someone else instead of confessing and accepting the punishment.
Abby also stabs herself in the stomach with a needle and lies that Elizabeth used her witchcraft to stab Abby. The community believes Abby’s story because there is a poppet in Elizabeth’s house with a needle in its stomach. Since Abby already has credibility and has proof that Elizabeth is a witch, she is able to get Elizabeth arrested. With Elizabeth out of the way, Abby believes that she can get back together with John. The second reason why Abigail has great influence over Elizabeth is so Abby can prevent Elizabeth from spreading the truth.

Arthur Miller was motivated to write The Crucible because of his interest in McCarthyism. The universal theme of compassion and forgiveness relates directly to the conflict of John Proctor cheating on Elizabeth, in which she eventually forgives him. Compassion and forgiveness relates to many aspects in life, especially in order to move on from what hurt you. John Proctor is in desperate need of forgiveness for the sin he committed while his wife, Elizabeth Proctor, was sick.
Justice; such a simple word that has many different meanings. What does justice mean? Is there only specific individuals that deserve justice? Many individuals believe that the word “justice” symbolizes a sort of respect for one, while others believe that this word has no meaning at all and that it is actions that actually make a difference. Each individuals must word hard to obtain justice due to the fact that respect is earned when an individual is defending their rights and interests.

He is identifying jealousy by exposing the actions of Abigail Williams. The development of the story shows a central idea to show jealousy and deceit. Abigail goes through a lot of trouble to be with john proctor.
Honor is what's on the inside Aristotle, an ancient philosopher, once said “You will never do anything in this world without courage. It is the greatest quality of the mind next to honor.” Honor is an important trait to have in a human being. In The Crucible John Proctor is faced with tough choices that describe his character and proves his honor to friends, family and to the community. Author Miller proves in The Crucible John Proctor is an honorable man by Johns loyalty, risking his good name and a good husband.
Cruelty is a recurrent theme in literature that often acts as a critical factor in a novel’s development. In Arthur Miller’s play, The Crucible, the occurrence of cruelty is seen to be gradually increasing as the story goes on from accusations of witchcraft that lead into chaos and death. Through Miller’s depiction of the merciless accusations and murders of innocent people, cruelty reveals a high extent of people’s animosity and vengeance that is greatly influenced by the attitude of the surrounding atmosphere. The accusations first began when the girls who were caught “dancing” in the forest were under pressure to confess what they were truly doing.

The Crucible by Arthur Miller, is a play about the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. Many people were accused of witchcraft in the Salem “courts”. Their corrupt political justice system was demonstrated through the use of false accusations and spectral evidence. Spectral evidence was the driving force of how people were accused of witchcraft and working with the devil. Abigail in open court accuses Sarah Good of working with the devil, “I saw Sarah Good with the devil” (Miller, 189).
In the Crucible by Aurther Miller there were many themes shown in the text. One of the most common themes presented in the book is Betrayal. Betrayal happens a lot through out life. Betrayal is when you go against someone who you were for at first. People often deal with Betrayal through out everyday life.
