Reverend hale has Amazing Hair This play, The Crucible, is written by Arthur miller. He wrote it during the red scare after being accused of being a communist. This play is about the witch trials that took place in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. Reverend hale is a priest that is brought to salem to diagnose whether there is witchcraft in the town. When he arrives he makes a grave mistake of taking the evidence he is shown at face value instead of examining it further. He then realizes his mistakes and even goes against his religion to try to correct his mistakes. Arthur wrote this play to prove that every couple of years a specific group of people are persecuted. Reverend Hale is a complex character with a labyrinthine personality, he is a condescending, conflicted, and honest man. When Reverend Hale arrived he tells rebecca the he respects her and she is a saint, but he becomes conflicted when she is arrested. He is told that she was mentioned in court, but he thinks that it is not a real problem. He sees rebbeca Nurse as a good person. After Hale questions John Proctor Francis Nurse runs into the street trying to get help because his wife, Rebecca Nurse has been arrested for witchcraft. At first he denies the possibility of her being a witch “ Mr.Nurse if Rebecca Nurse is tainted, than nothing's left to stop the whole green world from burning”(1304). He is sure there is no way she could be a witch ,but he does not want to doubt his religion. After conversing more with Francis he become conflicted “Man remember until an hour before, the Devil fell, God thought him beautiful” (1304).
