I went to see a performance called Ballet Grand Thèatre De Genève at the Joyce Theater on April 27th, 2018 and Disney’s Aladdin at the New Amsterdam Theatre on April 17th, 2018. The beginning of the show there was a giant lion’s head known as the cave of wonders. There were so many costumes being shown off throughout the performance, but the ones that stood out the most to me were the Arabian belly dancer costumes and the costumes in the performance "A friend like mine". The Arabian belly dance costume had very vibrant colors such as bright orange, red, yellow, blue, green and some even multicolored. The top was a bustier with a few jewels and the bottom was a long flowing skirt. In the "A friend like me" act the costumes were all gold with …show more content…

In parts of the performance the dancers used jazz routines, then they would use tap dance routines, I liked that they switch from different types of dancing throughout the entire performance. With each dance sections of the musical, the dancers wore different clothing, the props on the stage would also change with each scene and the costume would match the props in some kind of way. In one part of the dance, there were only two dancers, a male, and a female. Their dancing was slow paced and graceful, while they were dancing you can see clearly the way their bodies would contract and then release because of the clothing they were wearing. The movement that I like was when he lifted her and holds her with one hand on his shoulder, then she slid down onto the floor, the way it was executed was simply perfect. One thing I found intriguing is when the lights were cut off and the panels were together and a video was displayed on the screen, where mannequins were submerged in water at the bottom of the sea and an individual was swimming around and in between them and sometimes casually holding the hand and touching the face of the mannequins. The front side of the individuals was not shown and I would say the reason why is because the individual was nude. Another thing I found interesting was the during the video that was played on the screen there was a scene when you see the same individual, but clothed this time falling into the water with a stuffed sheep. Overtime only his clothing would appear in the water. When the male appears again it was as if he was fighting in the water with his inner demons and essentially losing his
