Precisely a few months after his inauguration on March,4,1881 the profound 20th president of the United States was shot. The doctors tried to relieve his pain but with poor hygienic techniques, James Garfield succumbed to his death. Destiny of the Republic by Candice Millard was the best selling book for it intricate detail on the weeks leading up to James Garfield death. I found this book very interesting and crisp with lots of detail. The most security detail the president ever was his bodyguard Brown. Brown of James Garfield and he was the only man that was responsible for him there was so other security for Garfield. In the book at the when Garfield arrived at the train station with his friend Blaine which escorted him to his train.Garfield denied the help of the security guard which was offering him assistance Patrick Kearny. Since they were alone with no security which gave Guiteau the assassin a very good chance of assassinating the president. This is the reason Guiteau had the chance of assassinating the president because of the lack of security.
