He uses “plane of light”, “sunset”, “shadow”, “last”, and “the hawk comes” in which he expresses that time will not stop even for death. Night is darkness, in which death will fall upon.

The title in itself conveys this message, and so does the most repeated line in the poem: “Rage, rage against the dying of the light.” (Dylan 1-6).
When the main character discovers that his memories of his ex-lover are still constantly haunting him, he wishes for his own death to put an end to the agony of his sadness, much like the dying embers of a fire. The poem “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night” contains descriptive, euphonious and cacophonous words to develop a message. The poem discusses the topic of death and how people look and accept it in different ways. The third verse in the first stanza uses diction with negative words to explain the rage some might have against death. Wise men knowing and accepting their fate of death is a topic in the second stanza. The wise men accept it but because they left no legacy they fight for more time.

The piece is actually a villanelle where it consist of six stanzas, each with three lines except for the sixth stanza which has four lines. The rhymes on the first until fifth stanzas are aba, aba, aba, aba, aba. While, abaa is the rhyme for the last quatrain stanza. Thomas died a few months after his father, it is believed that this poem was written by him especially for his father.
Thomas fought against the dying light, he raged at the fact that god wanted him and all others who fallen so soon. When Thomas wrote this poem I don’t think he meant to be but it’s ironic because he died a year later. Besides irony Thomas also used repetition and rhyme to get his point made. My idea that I got from, “Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night” is that if you’re dying don’t just accepted it, fight it.

Despite acknowledging this power and the inevitability of death, however, Thomas stresses the importance of resisting its tyranny by repeatedly urging the reader to “Rage, rage against the dying of the light”. Moreover, the repetitive use of various facets of mankind, such as "wise men," "good men," "wild men," and "grave men," reinforces the message that all men should resist death, regardless of their background or accomplishments. Furthermore, the poem's ABA pattern rhyme scheme adds to the significance of the message.
Dylan Thomas is another poet that has written a poem about loss. However, in ‘Do Not Go Gentle Into That Goodnight’, the poets father is ageing and dying slowly and he is struggling to accept it, the persona is begging his father to fight for his life, to live longer and to not give up, the persona is determined to make his father win the battle against the natural order of things, Dylan Thomas wrote this poem with intentions to motivate his father to keep fighting, the persona is portrayed as someone that does not handle losing someone well, from the first stanza you can already sense the desperation in the words used. The use of the word ‘goodnight’ is like a goodbye to his dying father as the ‘night’ symbolises death, the end so to say ‘goodnight’
One of the most notable characteristics of Robert Frost’s poems is darkness. Several of the great poets literary works include an element of darkness. Often, Frost uses darkness as a metaphor for death. Frost’s poems are a vehicle for expressing his opinions toward death to millions of people around the world. However, death is a difficult subject to perfectly put into words and even the greatest authors sometimes struggle to be consistent in what they are saying.
