There have been many exciting decades in the United States so far despite the youth of the country. It is quite common to hear someone from today refer to different decades of the 1900’s. Whether if it is somebody talking about 80’s music or referring to 90’s fashion, it is clear that there is much that makes up a decade and that is what it really sticks with people. The book conquers the problem that primary sources have by including a wide variety of people, some with different opinions on things as other interviewees. For instance, as mentioned earlier one interviewee called Woodstock magical while one said it was a waste of time and horrible. From Camelot to Kent State also focuses on the civil rights movement, which was one of the most important aspects to the 1960’s. Another important aspect touched upon was the war in Vietnam and the opposing views about the war. The book does an excellent job of opening up the readers mind and making one think about what they would have done or believed in if they had lived in the 1960’s. The book also strongly connects with many other great pieces of literature in film such an Eric Foner’s Voices of Freedom and the film Freedom Riders. Overall, the point of the book is that the 1960’s were an incredible time remembered by many, and many had different opinions. A lot of important things were happening and society was changing, and the book captures what people were believing and feeling during the time. Therefore, From Camelot to Kent State is one of the best tools for opening one’s mind to one of the most important decades in
