In the book , How to Read Literature Like a Professor written by Thomas C. Foster, he explains that there are five components to a quest, a quester, place to go, stated reason to go, the challenges and trials, and the real reason to go, which Foster explains is always self-knowledge. The initial purpose of the quest is not always completed; instead over time the protagonist runs into numerous challenges that test the very core of their being, reflecting their own thoughts on their life. As Novinha explains that “telling the truth makes you cry” which reflects on how careful Andrew must be around others and the Pequeninos (Card 207). The job of a speaker is to tell the truth about what the death meant to the member close to him/her, and sometimes it might not be the one that will always be accepted, but it is however the truth. When the pequeninos realize that their actions of killing the xenobiologist were wrong they were sobbing in horror, saying “I thought I was helping him,” now they realizing that they weren’t, however the speaker accepts it because it is the Pequeninos culture is vastly different then his own (Card 342). Which is what the speaker must do, interpret the actions of others. Andrew learns that through all the guilt and sorrow he has seen from everyone on this world, he reflects on his own life and wondering what he has done and decides he wishes to settle down after he completes his original mission of letting the buggers
