This week’s reading was an article by Clayton M. Christensen titled, How Will You Measure Your Life? Christensen asks three questions of reflection to help strategize your life towards success. His writing is clear and thought provoking. He writes at an understandable level and helps ease the reader into the steps needed to take management and innovation theories a step further as the guiding compass of one’s life. The first question Christensen asks is, “How can I be sure that I’ll be happy in my career” (Christensen, 2010, p. 2). It is wise to make time to become self-aware. Money and worldly possessions are very nice accommodations, but does your bank account or car determine your level of happiness? I am at a stage in my career where I am highly money motivated. Reading this article made me step back and realize hard work is good, earning your pay is admirable, but recognition for the work performed is just as important. I realized I might be in a state of denial. Money and promotions might be more important to me than my happiness. George, Sims, McLean, and Mayer state, “Denial can be the greatest hurdle that leaders face in becoming self-aware” (George, et al., 2011, p. 169). 4). Family and you’re your religion should be the cornerstone and guiding beacon of what drives you. Personally, I am overly and outwardly in love with my wife. We make sure in our busy schedules to get quality time at least once or twice a week.
