In Scott Weinberg’s The Purge review, he presents the reader with his unclear and unsupported opinion of the horror film. Throughout this review Weinberg doesn’t clarify to the reader whether he enjoyed or disliked the film, taking away from the review as a whole. He also makes a fault in his argument when his beginning statement has no tie in to the proceeding review. There is a lack of understanding for the reader throughout the entire article. This review is based on the horror movie, The Purge, which takes place in a suburban city advanced to a time in the future. Weinberg talks about how this isn’t the typical home invasion horror movie. The director realized how to break free from the run of the mill ideas and eliminate the police from the plot. Some twists are thrown into the mix when the storyline faces the conflict between money and moral values. The justification he uses to support this example isn’t logical because he gives both reasoning’s as positive outlooks. He uses the idea of someone seeing a glass half-full and one seeing the glass half-empty, leading the reader to think that one person would see the movie in a positive light and the other with a derogatory view. Yet both explanations justify the movie positively; one viewer believing that the film is “clever” (line 3) and the other rating the film as “earning a lot of points” (line 5).
