Of the categories “doer”, “bridger”, or a “thinker”, I believe that I am most likely a thinker. I get random ideas from places I go, and then my wheels start turning. I fall into the thinker category because I tend to think about things more and fully analyze them before I act them out. When I think of an idea that I want to pursue, I think about the reasons I am doing it, the outcome, and any consequences that could come of it. Sometimes instead of just analyzing things, I tend to overanalyze them. I am a worrier, and I tend to come up with crazy situations why I should not do something. Alison was the lady who brought the idea of worms to Will Allen. I can relate to Alison because she had this idea come to her after visiting Africa. She wanted to make a difference in people’s lives, but couldn’t quite figure out the pieces by herself, so she joined an organization. She couldn’t figure out how to put animals into city homes until she reached out to an expert. It was then that her idea was starting to take play, and it really took off when she met the “doer” of the whole thing, Will Allen. It teaches us about community engagement by showing us that involving the community can really make a difference not only in our lives but theirs too because of the relationships that are built. I can apply this to my life by involving myself more in the Missouri State community to make a difference and build relationships with different people. It could be good networking. Cultural competence is taught to us from the book by showing us that no matter how diverse someone is from ourselves, it does not matter because we both have the same goals and aspirations. Also, it shows us that we can always learn something from someone else. I can apply this to my life by being more welcoming and putting myself out into cultures I would not normally step into. This could help me learn something from other people who aren’t like me, and it could help me grow as a person. Lastly, ethical leadership is shown tremendously not only by Will Allen but also all of his other workers too. All of the workers worked to the best of their ability from sunrise to sundown, and they did not stop until the work was done. They did not slack, and they pushed others to work harder. I can apply this to my life by taking on those leadership positions and making myself and the people looking up to me better workers and people. By being in a leadership position, I can help the organization grow and succeed more than when it started by
