In General Douglas MacArthur’s speech, he persuaded his audience by using ethos, logos and a fallacy of thinking. General Douglas MacArthur was hoping to persuade the audience to listen to him during the surrender ceremony, which was after Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed. MacArthur used his ethos to show his importance related to World War II, he understood that more people would listen to what he had to say if he presented himself in a respectable manner. In the introduction the speech says, “On September 2, 1945, General Douglas MacArthur, commander of the U.S. forces in the Pacific during World War II, accepted the formal surrender of Japan”(introduction).
