In his essay, “Generation Text”. Bauerlein compares past generations and todays generations to convince his readers that smartphones can change people’s lives and make a “dumber” generation. He explained many facts about today’s generations being dumb using their phones 24 hours. He also gave us the reasons of why he called dumb generation. In order to get attention from the audience, Bauerlein uses linguistic and rhetorical elements such as structure and style, etc. not to mention that the author trying to moves his or her readers to feel certain ways. (Bauerlein 352) In the first paragraph, Bauerlein opens his article by saying “Children between the ages of 13 and 17 who have a mobile phone average 1,742 text message each month” (349). This is a fact that Bauerlein read it from a report. This paragraph has a lot of logos considered the facts he mentioned about the children between the ages of 13 to 17. Opening the article with facts will make the audience understand the subject even if there is no title on it. he uses …show more content…

He uses many of elements such as structure, style …, to make his audience understand the article and get the message that he want us to see. The way the author wrote his article was in order, he started from giving the audience facts about today’s generations and then he moved to compare them between past generations and gives more fact between todays and past generation. The reason why the author did that is to make the audience or the past generation audience agree with him, he gave a lot of facts for past generation since they have been through this phase so they will agree with him. His evident was very clear to both generations. Some of the audience might disagree if they did not understand what is the main point of his article. I believe his article is not agents smartphones I think its agents the usage of smartphones and are we using them in right or wrong
