The rest of chapter 6 continues with the themes of fear and loss of youth and hope. The soldiers experiences a loss of innocence more extreme than anyone back at home. It was extreme, abrupt, and forever changed the lives of the men. They will never again be able to fit in back home because of the horrific events they went through. Paul believes that, “even if these scenes of our youth were given back to us we would hardly know what to do.”
Green and the Union Forces As the states realized the corruption of enslaving other human beings, a major division was created on the belief on whether or not to maintain or end their oppression. Alfred Green, a former abolitionist, attempts to influence the free African Americans to enlist in the Union forces by delivering a speech in 1861. Throughout his presentation, he formally addresses the difficulties they have endured, and motivates them to pursue in the war to establish the feeling of patriotism and unity among the people. In order to influence such a crowd, Green utilizes appeals to emotion to instill the idea of partnership in order to put an end to enslavement.
Speeches are used to commemorate points of history, and inform the general public of the product of their history but what makes a speech so impacting on it’s audience? Rhetorical devices give speeches and works of literature a way that can convey feelings or ideas to a viewer. When addressing during times of war or chaos, people such as Ronald Reagan, Abraham Lincoln, and Winston Churchill used these terms to better connect with their audience. Without these tools of the english language, dialogue and literature would be all the more dull and unappealing. However, with these useful instruments, writers and speakers can better communicate through some of the many rhetorical devices.
Bryson Esplin Mr. Johansen ENG 101 1 February 2023 Rhetorical Analysis of Julie Petersen’s “Analysis Essay: Is Macbeth A Tragic Hero?” One true problem with writing posted to the internet is the inability to prove what, if anything, is true or credible. With common phrases such as “Don’t believe everything you read” and “Fake news,” it has become more important than ever to know what articles are reliable. One example of a source that claims to be trustworthy but is questionable at best is the website AskPetersen.com. Julie Petersen, who runs the website, claims to have everything to help readers “write a perfect essay” (Petersen, “Blog”).
Mark Twain, an 18th century humorist, was known for his critical and satirical writing. In one of his most famous essays, “ Fenimore Coopers Literary Offenses” Twain addresses Coopers inability to realistically develop a “situation” and his failure to effectively back up his stories in order for them to be more plausible. To dramatically convey his unimpressed and sarcastic attitude, he applies biting diction, metaphors and hypophora throughout this work . By continuously using biting diction, Twain develops a mocking tone towards Fenimore Cooper’s incapability to create even the simplest of storylines. In the title of the work a sarcastic tone is evident; the word choice is utilized to reinforce the argument stating how Coopers work is an offense to the world of literature.
Visual Analysis Sebasttian Sobenes Art History “Untitled” was created by Tony Robbin in 1976 and is considered part of the Pattern & Decoration art period. Tony Robbin is one of the pioneers of the Pattern & Decoration art period. The piece was painted on a canvas with acrylic paint, which is a type of paint that is water-soluble, as well as quickly dries. A benefit of acrylic paint is that once the paint is dried, it becomes water-resistant. This painting has the dimensions of 56 inches by 140 inches.
Peter S. Goodman builds an argument to persuade his audience that news organizations should increase the amount of professional foreign news coverage by giving solutions to the problem he claims that news stations currently has. Goodman states that news agencies do not report nor have reporting about foreign news. Goodman than uses problem and solution to explain his points and to solve his points. He also uses the device appeal to logos to explain his points. And lastly, Goodman compares studies to support his views on this crisis.
Pitts Article Rhetorical Analysis – Final Draft In life people try to comfort others in times of grieving. Leonard Pitts comforts his readers in his article, “We will go forward from this moment ” by trying to make since of the 9/11 attack. Pitts uses emotion and logic to persuade the Americans that the terrorists can do what they want to America, but America is tough enough to handle it.

She uses a few different rhetorical terms to convey her point of view. The author uses irony, sarcastic tone, and symbolism to show that she thinks that that some Americans only focus on work and should be focusing on more important things such as family. Goodman uses irony to show that Phil’s beliefs were insignificant and wrong.
Alfred M. Green: Rhetorical Analysis In April of 1861, the first month of the Civil War, an African American man named Alfred M. Green delivered a speech in favor of African American men joining the Union army. During this time period, African American men were still not able to enlist in the army. However, Green believed that it was still essential towards the Union army’s victory, and towards their freedom and rights as African American individuals. By using the rhetorical strategies logos, ethos, and pathos, he notifies the audience of what they can accomplish, creates trust and unity, and inspires them by describing the possibility of change for the future.
Throughout the novel Tuesday’s With Morrie, the author, Mitch Albom, reflects on his Tuesday meetings with his old professor, now consumed with a terminal illness, and, using many rhetorical choices, reveals “The Meaning of Life,” which they discussed profusely and divided into several categories. Topics such as Death, Emotions, Aging, Money, Culture, and more are all discussed in their weekly conferences, Morrie passing his wisdom on to one of his favor students. And Albom, writing about their talks, uses numerous rhetoric devices to discuss this wisdom. As Morrie Schwartz, dying of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), speaks with Albom, the two talk about Death.
Everyone wants the truth and with Leonard Pitts Jr. you get it. Pitts writes for the Miami Herald daily newspaper in southern Florida. His style is very unique in all of his writings, and different from other authors. Pitts mostly focuses on the outbreak of the daily news. For instance, Don’t Lower The Bar on Education Standards is strictly states lowering the bar will not fix anything it will only decrease the standards.
In this passage, Charlotte Perkins Gilman highlights the theme that women must use their intellect or go mad through the use of literary qualities and writing styles. Gilman also uses the use of capital letters to portray the decline in the narrators’ sanity. This shows the decline in the sanity of a person because the words in all-caps is shown as abrupt, loud remarks. Gilman uses this method multiple times in her short story and this method was used twice in this passage. When the narrator wrote, “LOOKING AT THE PAPER!”, the major decline in her mental health was shown.
