The following essay is a rhetorical analysis of the 2018 Budweiser Super Bowl commercial. The advertisement was in response to the recent natural disasters in Florida, Texas, California, and Puerto Rico. These hurricanes and floods can pollute the water and destroy water infrastructures. The commercial shows the Cartersville brewery workers converting their beer cans into water to ship out to cities in need. The brand strategically tries appealing to the majority of the U.S. population who watches the Super Bowl.

Marquart’s purpose is to convince the audience that where she grew up is unique for plenty of reasons. Extra -Gum Advertisement The purpose of this commercial is to encourage the viewer to realize the importance of a stick of Extra gum in their life. The commercial begins with a tender moment between a new father and his young daughter as he chews a piece of Extra gum and makes an origami bird out of the wrapper. The father’s act of giving an origami gum wrapper to his daughter is repeated through different stages of the daughter’s life: at her birthday, at the beach, at the ball game, at the house with a date, and an emotional moment ending with the father’s discovery that she has always kept the origami birds in a special box. The audience of this commercial is everybody who are chewing gum and there is no age limit.
Rhetorical strategies including pathos, ethos, and logos are stylistic elements often used as a persuasion technique to get an audience to either buy a product or participate in something. Advertisements almost always have at least one of these three components, and Super Bowl commercials specifically are renowned for their entertaining use of these strategies. Of the many Super Bowl commercials, two stood out to me for their in-depth use of all three of these rhetorical strategies. The first commercial combines the extreme measures taken by an overprotective dad and the new Hyundai Genesis. These two seemingly unlike ideas are brought together in a collaboration that effectively use pathos, ethos, and logos to prove the audience of their product.
The Volkswagen Darth Vader Kid Commercial (Television) This is a humorous commercial that heavily uses pathos. The commercials use of a childhood dream brings a happy and humor filled vibe that appeals to a large audience. In the commercial, a child dressed as Darth Vader attempts to use the force with no prevail. This appeals to the audience because Star Wars is so well known and has such a large fan base.
The film focuses on the characters lives and how they can keep going when they struggle with society. The film uses rhetorical strategies such as pathos, ethos, and logos to make this movie bring emotions, blank stares, and leave the audience to question reality. The purpose of the specific camera shots and angles is to provide an appropriate view of the movie. Lastly, the use of persuasion to allow the audience to interpret what the film says versus the thoughts in their head. The film does a good job of pointing out the flaws in our system and a specific culture that the flaws
The Audi R8 Big Game Commercial, "Commander" talks about an old man who is thinking about his time as an astronaut. He misses it and he just stares at a wall and doesn’t talk to anybody. His son comes with his Audi R8 and he gives the car keys to his dad to drive it. He becomes happy and excited and it makes him relive his time as an astronaut. The commercials purpose was to promote the Audi R8 car.
Lemonade In 2016, the Queen B, Beyoncé, dropped her fifth solo album called, Lemonade. Lemonade is a visual album. Beyoncé’s album first premiered on HBO, April 23rd 2016. This album have many famous collaborators like, Jack White, James Blake, The Weeknd, and Kendrick Lamar.
In the advertisement, Puppy, Monkey, Baby, Mtn Dew takes a unique approach to appeal to their audience. The commercial begins with three guys mentioning how they would like to relax for that day, however, a hybrid animal appears out of nowhere. This unexpected appearance leads to a chain of events where eventually the three individuals follow the animal and drink the beverage it gives them. A few rhetorical techniques were used to draw the viewer’s attention, one of them being repetition.
During Super Bowl Sunday, millions of people across the globe tune in to watch the game while also gawking at some of the most popular commercials of the year. Coca-Cola presented its commercial “Love Story” during this past Super Bowl. They are known for having memorable and popular advertisements, this past one was no different. “Love Story” persuades the average person to drink a Coke with any meal along with the ones they cherish.

This commercial could appeal to any soccer player or aspiring professional athlete because it revolves around the game of soccer they are playing to determine which team gets to stay.
