Sincere President, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, in his speech, Pearl Harbor Address to the Nation, validates that yesterday the Empire of Japan attacked the United States by way of Pearl Harbor. Roosevelt’s purpose is to notify the American people that the U.S. is officially at war with the Empire of Japan. He creates an authentic tone in order to convey to the People to take his words for truth and have faith that America will triumph in the war ahead.
Roosevelt begins his speech by explaining the reveal of Japan’s deception and attack by way of distraction and lies with all this being fact. He creates an authentic tone through his usage of transitional and concrete words in: “Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in the American island of Oahu…” (4) and “During the intervening time, the Japanese government…” (5).
