Have you ever had that one annoying friend who always ruins your pleasant mood? Your friend's voice alone makes you want to punch him in the face. Because he only talks about being better at everything than you are. Well, this might be President Donald Trump. Columnist, Frank Bruni, in his editorial explains how President Trump is all about himself. His view conveys a tone of hatred towards President Trump. First, Bruni incorporates rhetorical questions to emphasize how President Trump is a stuck up person. Second, Bruni utilizes specific details as examples of how President Trump acts self-centered. Although President Trump's relations with African Americans are not the best, he "earned" that respect. By selecting this precise diction, Bruni establishes a hateful tone. Bruni chose the word to for a reason. Nobody else created the tension except Donald Trump himself. It is only President Trumps fault for the tenseness. By choosing the word "earned", Bruni effectively emphasizes his fault. Bruni also explains Trump's "egomania" is spreading into his administration. The vulgar diction portrays how Bruni does not respect President Trump at all. The negative connotation of the word transfers to a disrespectful tone. Why should Bruni respect Trump when all Bruni sees is a bigheaded person? He should not which is why Bruni wrote his editorial because he wants people to know they should not either.
