The article “Consider the Lobster” by David Wallace opens a vivid, gruesome window, to a harsh truth that all lobster consumers push far back into the recesses of their minds. Wallace implores us to visit the controversial issue of boiling a live creature to death, for the sole purpose of our consumption. He uses a variety of literary persuasive tactics including the three rhetorical appeals Logos, Pathos and Ethos to drive home his argument to the reader. Throughout the article Wallace puts the reader on the front lines of a three-front war of convincing ethical, emotional and logical appeals.
Since I began high school, language arts has been my most difficult class. In the essay, “The Death of the Moth”, Virginia Woolf uses metaphor to convey that the relationship between life and death is one that is strange and fragile. Woolf tells the story of the life and death of a moth, one that is petite and insignificant. The moth is full of life, and lives life as if merry days and warm summers are the only things the moth knows. However, as the moth enters it’s last moments, it realizes that death is stronger than any other force. As the moth knew life seconds before, it has now deteriorated into death.

Throughout the text Jane uses the words "manner of creatures "(paragraph 5, 5th sentence) to appeal to the reader's logic. She mainly uses these words to provide the readers with more information and to make sure their sentiments are going in the right direction.
