President John F. Kennedy's Inaugural Address contains a multitude of rhetorical devices such as antithesis, imagery, anaphora and simplicity. He uses these rhetorical devices to motivate the public, united the people, and provoke Americans into action. Through his speech he proves that he is the right person to lead America. John F. Kennedy uses a numerous amount of antithesis in his speech. “We observe today not a victory of party but a celebration of freedom--symbolizing an end as well as a beginning--signifying renewal as well as change”. This antithesis unites the old and new generation of Americans, despite their differences, and prepares them for the future. He also states the his election “symbolizing an end as well as a beginning”.
