Now as I’ve been agreeing with all the test’s results and their meanings behind them, there is something that Ms. Kendra Cherry speaks of that I don’t agree with, and that is some of her career choices for ISFJ people. Now she does gives an examples of some that are good choices such as a bookkeeper, banker, and an accountant, she thinks that some of the best career choices for people with the personality type are social worker, counselor, teacher, etc. The reason why I disagree with her choices is that I feel that her choices don’t go well with people who have the ISFJ type of personality. In the story “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allan Poe the character Montresor killed a man by the name of Fortunato by chaining him up and walling him in. Montresor did and does not feel guilt for this crime. He did not feel guilt for this crime because he believed he was right for doing so. That reason is because Fortunato insulted him and because they were upper class it was more serious even though it never states in the story of what Fortunato said. Montresor only felt a little guilty and that was when he sealed the last brick down other than that he did not feel guilt especially if he kept it a secret for fifty years.
Genre Throughout the different texts we analyzed in the first half of the quarter, we looked at the various genres of the texts in order to see how they affect rhetoric. Genres are important to rhetoric because they raise and manage expectations the audience might have for a specific work. This is because people have internalized the generic conventions of a genre. We delved into these conventions by analyzing different genres of texts such as Pitbull’s music video, film, various poems, and speeches. An example of how we analyzed a genre is how we annotated Horace’s poem about carpe diem.
Pathos would not be the most adequate for "Hello". Pathos is focused on emotions, however, "hello" does not reach most to emotions. It may be seen as a respectful act to some individuals. The elders were raised to say "hello" to any individual that they saw or passed along their destination. For instence, in the latin culture it is of good manners to greet any one with "hello", but it would be considered disrespectful if one just strolled right by without greeting.
Past leaders such as Andrew Jackson, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Marc Antony are evidence that society does not reward morality and good character in leadership. Society is drawn to leaders that have good rhetoric, propaganda, and charismatic personalities, and society supports them despite their immorality. Society is concerned about stability more than the morality of their leaders and will support immoral leaders in times of crisis to provide stability. In history there have been multiple leaders that have used rhetoric, propaganda and charismatic personalities to gain power, despite their morals.
Rhetorical analysis is an investigation into how someone uses his/her critical reading skills to analyze text. The objective of the rhetorical analysis is the study of how the author writes, instead of what the author wrote. At that point, we need to examine the method that the author uses to attain his goal. According to Jonah G. Willihnganz “A rhetorical analysis is an examination of how a text persuades us of its point of view. It focuses on identifying and investigating the way a text communicates, what strategies it employs to connect to an audience, frame an issue, establish its stakes, make a particular claim, support it, and persuade the audience to accept the claim”.
When someone gets anything handed to them whether it be a new laptop or even a higher ranking job they don’t really know how it is earned so they care less. A person has to know the difficulties of earning a certain higher position, whether it be for their job or social standing. In the novel “Lord of the Flies” a group of kids crash land on a island surrounded by water with a goal of getting rescued. Two boys have been given power by others and one of the them was voted into power while the other simply made his own “government.” In this story power can be seen as violence or it can be seen as the savage level.
Mark Twain, an 18th century humorist, was known for his critical and satirical writing. In one of his most famous essays, “ Fenimore Coopers Literary Offenses” Twain addresses Coopers inability to realistically develop a “situation” and his failure to effectively back up his stories in order for them to be more plausible. To dramatically convey his unimpressed and sarcastic attitude, he applies biting diction, metaphors and hypophora throughout this work . By continuously using biting diction, Twain develops a mocking tone towards Fenimore Cooper’s incapability to create even the simplest of storylines. In the title of the work a sarcastic tone is evident; the word choice is utilized to reinforce the argument stating how Coopers work is an offense to the world of literature.
