Foreign policy wise, Nixon, while still in office, began to follow Realpolitik, a policy that allowed him to create relationships with both the Soviet Union and China because it no longer required morality to be a considering factor. This change in foreign policy caused concern for Americans because of the fear of communism.
Richard Nixon was the 37th U.S President from January 20, 1969 through August 9, 1974 and during his term, President Nixon would become one of the most talked about administration. This was due to the Watergate scandal; this would heavily over shadow his other accomplishments and bring the White House under the microscope. Nixon would tap phones and record conversations of people when he would have meetings. He did end the war in Vietnam and improved our relationships with China and the USSR. One of his objections in the United States was to try and bridge the divide in our cities and try to heal the war weary people of our nation, because of all the disagreements over Vietnam.

From 1969 to 1974 Nixon held office after a new wave of conservatism due to the College students marches that consequently turned into riots over anti-war Vietnam sentiment. Furthermore the Democratic Party split due to polarization over the involvement of the United States in the war. According to The Enduring Vision President Nixon had a tendency to be paranoid and fearful of any political opponent; including an “enemies list” where he kept all political opponents in check.
President Nixon is one of the most famous Presidents in American history for being the first one to resign from office. While Nixon is famous for doing such an unthinkable act, he is also the one that gave one of the best and most well known speeches in political history, The Checkers Speech. The speech was given by (Senator at the time) President Nixon when he was running for Vice President on General Eisenhower’s Presidential ticket. A newspaper, the New York Post, had a front page with the headline "Secret Rich Men's Trust Fund Keeps Nixon in Style Far Beyond His Salary"; the article alleged that people were donating to a secret fund that Nixon had for his personal benefit in trade for political favors.
In general I would say Richard Nixon was a fairly decent president. During a time where there were many protests amongst the American public (especially the youth) against the troops in Vietnam, Nixon was able to pull the troops out of the war. Nixon also reduced the tensions with the Soviet Union, and helped China join the United Nations. He also helped decrease the amount of racial discrimination by segregating schools in the south. It is a shame though, that those achievements of his are not acknowledged because of the Watergate Scandal.
John F. Kennedy was the youngest president to step foot in the White House, and he was also known for his various affairs. Biographer Robert Dallek described Kennedy as a "compulsive womanizer" and based on the number of accused affairs it is safe to say Dallek's description is accurate. People broke into the Watergate building to wiretap phones and steal secret documents. Nixon knew about the break in before hand and tried to cover it up. When people found out about him trying to cover it up, he decided to resign as president. He gave his speech on August 8th 1974 and resigned on the 9th.
All of this deceit only made Nixon viewed as dishonest and shady to the American people, making his impeachment seem almost predictable. But something that was not predicted was Richard Nixon’s
Mr. Eaton married Mrs. Eaton to give her a worthy name and in hopes that the rumors die down. Other political families did not agree that Mrs. Eaton was good women. They “unwelcomed [her] at all social functions” (100). This reminded Jackson of his own problems with his deceased wife, Rachel Jackson. She, too, had rumors circulating from her first marriage and it haunted her all the way to her death.
He took difficult situations, such as Russia’s extensive weapon use and hostility towards the US and resolved this problem through his new foreign policy ideas. Without Nixon’s strong focus on foreign policy, events like the war with Vietnam could have continued and caused more damage to the United States. Nixon also showed he was able to adapt to all situations and interact with all leaders of different countries. Instead of focusing on only the negative aspects of Nixon’s presidency, he should be remembered for all of his positive achievements that contributed to getting the United States out of difficult situations. He had amassed a collection of government fills, tape records, and intelligence on the common people in the Watergate building. After it was broken into, files were stolen and released to the public. It was the first real time that the general public learned just how paranoid Nixon was, but also how much he wanted to keep the power he already had. As these precious documents surfaced, one could see in full light that Nixon exhibited all the symptoms of Paranoid Personality Disorder. He was always distrustful of people, he recorded every encounter he had, so that one could twist his words against him.
His father was a service station owner and grocer and his mother was a Quaker who exerted a strong influence on her son. Even though Nixon’s early life was hard, he attended Fullerton High School but later transferred to Whittier High School and graduated second in his class; as a result, he was offered a scholarship to Harvard. Unfortunately, Nixon’s family could not afford the travel and living expenses, thus, he attended local Whittier College. He received a full scholarship to Duke University Law School in Durham, N.C. Eventually, Nixon participated actively in this country politics and became member of the US.
Which at first glance looks like a positive thing but once you dive deeper into what his real motives are, it's rather eye opening. Let's start with the war on crime. During this time you had the black panthers who were people fighting for civil rights, people who were fighting for women's rights, and people who were fighting for gay rights. Nixon felt the need to fight against these movements and therefore one was more likely to get arrested for attending these rallies— for committing a crime which really wasn't a crime. He strategically blinded the public to this by calling it "the war on crime".
In recent years, a particularly controversial topic in politics is the issue of abortion. Abortion is the act of prematurely and deliberately ending a pregnancy. The moral dilemma that the debate revolves around is both highly sensitive and controversial in that it deals not only with the rights and power women have over their bodies but also concerns itself with the ethics surrounding personhood. The two differing sides in the debates over abortion are the anti abortion pro-life and the pro abortion pro-choice groups.
