The Religious Scientist Religion and science are always clashing with one another. Science is an area where people are trying to understand how the world works, while religion is what people believe in how the world works. In our ever-changing modern society, being both is a challenge, because many times religion and science have different views on different things, so it is not possible to be a religious and scientific person. Stephen Hawking is a physicist who happens to be an atheist. He is well known for his theories of how the universe came to be and theories on black holes. He has written an entire book on the basis of why he is an atheist, specifically why God is not needed to explain the origin of the universe. Richard Dawkins is known for being an ethologist, evolutionary biologist, and a writer. Dawkins believes that humans evolved through natural selection. In theology, it is said that God created humans, which contradicts many pieces of evidence scientists have found that hold true to what Dawkins says. Part of the controversy about evolution is where did we get our morals from. Dawkins says that it is from fear of a God who doesn’t even exist. If Dawkins was a religious person, he would not have been able to make the bold statements that he says today because he would never think that it was correct. In the back of his head, he would always believe that God created everything, which according to scientific fact, is not true at all. According to religions, any holy book is God’s true word, so if a religious person reads any holy book, they will believe what it says. Dawkins says, “The truth of the holy book is an axiom, not the end product of a process of
