For this assignment I studied the infamous Richard Leonard Kuklinski in efforts to compile an overall theory that explains his actions and demeanor. Richard Kuklinski also known as “The Iceman” was a serial killer and contract killer who worked for several Italian-American crime families; he has stated that he believes he killed more than 100 people during his lifetime. He received the nickname “The Iceman” for his method of freezing a victim to mask the time of death. There are many events that occurred in Richard’s life that can possibly explain why he eventually grew up to be a murderous individual; however, the first reason I will discuss is Richard’s childhood upbringing. Overall, Richard had a disastrous childhood; he was often severely beaten by his alcoholic father and his very strict catholic mother. At that time since Richard could not take his hostility out on his father due to the fact that he was fairly small, young, and feared his father; he would abuse animals instead. For example, when Richard was about 13 years old he started abusing cats by setting them on fire and watching them die. Park Dietz also diagnosed Kuklinski with Paranoid Personality Disorder. According to www.wikipedia.com Paranoid Personality Disorder is a mental disorder characterized by paranoia and a pervasive, long-standing suspiciousness and generalized mistrust of others. Dr. Park Dietz stated that Kuklinski suffered from Paranoid Personality Disorder because he was always paranoid and had the inability to trust others or make personal connections with individuals; he never forgave anyone who was betrayed him, and he hated criticism and if he was criticized he would act violently. Dr. Park Dietz also stated that Kuklinski suffered from Paranoid Personality Disorder because he abused animals; and individuals who violently abuse animals and people typically are suffering from Paranoid Personality
