Richard Rodriguez grew up as the son of bilingual parents that read only out of necessity. Early on in his childhood, Richard didn't appreciate books and thought of them only as chores, he disliked the mere effort of moving his eyes across the page to read the "dizzying" text. Richard later would grow up to be completely infatuated with books and would produce his own works for people to interpret and enjoy, he went as far to say that books "were crucial for my education" and that all books contained value through lessons, major ideas, and themes that would help educate him to become more like his teachers. Even as a young 6th grader, Richard understood that reading books and vast amounts of literature would only benefit him in the long run and even help him in high school by making him "a confident speaker and writer of English". All of his reading was done to make him feel less empty inside and to make him feel more "educated". Richard believed that the majority of learning was done through reading. I, however, find that a lot of learning can occur while having no connection to literature whatsoever. …show more content…

I believe that an educated person is someone that believes in comparison to the vast amount of information that we have discovered, created, interpreted and haven't discovered yet, that what they know is slim to none at most. I believe that an educated person will strive to learn as much of this information as they possibly can and dedicate their lives to discovering all of the unknown things, that they strive for greatness in every step of the way through their education. I would consider reading to be one of the most invaluable tools that a person can learn, it is without a doubt vital for a persons education. Being able to read helps make someone "educated", and reading material can cultivate your education with new ideas, but reading alone cannot lift you to your highest
