Rick Riordan Rick Riordan is an author of many books and series. He enjoys writing mystery and mythology books. My favorite series is the Percy Jackson and the Olympians. “Percy Jackson and the lightning thief” is one of my favorite books. In this novel the hero Percy Jackson learns he is the son of a god, Poseidon. He is accused of stealing Zeus's lightning bolt, his master weapon. He goes on a quest to retrieve it. He goes to Hades’s lair and Hades accuses him for stealing his master weapon too. To make matters worse Zeus’s lightning bolt appears in his bag. He then later confronts Ares, the god of war. Ares tells him that he wanted to start a war. When he goes back to camp, Luke tells him he was the one who stole Zeus’s lightning …show more content…

He attended Alamo Heights high school and graduated in 1982. He enrolled at the University of Texas in Austin. Rick majored in English and History. After graduating in 1986 he chose teaching as his career. Rick spent 15 years teaching English, history, and Greek mythology. He taught at various middle schools in the San Francisco Bay area and in San Antonio. Rick enjoyed writing at an early age. He tried to publish his short stories but was unsuccessful. He took writing seriously after teaching in San Francisco. Though Rick and his family lived in California, he missed living in Texas. He decided to try writing mystery novels. He won many awards for his mystery novels. He won the Edgar, the Anthony, and the Shamus award. Rick’s son, Haley who was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia was interested in Greek mythology which Rick taught. Rick started writing Greek mythology when his son asked for a bedtime story, about the gods and heroes in Greek mythology. Since he already taught the subject he was happy to. When he run out of myths Haley his son, was disappointed and asked if he could make up a story. Rick came up with the character Percy Jackson and told Haley all about his quest to retrieve Zeus’s lightning bolt. It took three nights to tell the whole story. Haley told him that he should write it as a book. Rick didn’t want to disappoint his son, so he took the time to write down the story. He made Percy Jackson ADHD and dyslexia
