Percy Jackson in The Lightning theif follows the steps in the hero’s journey. The lightning theif aligns with the hero’s journey because There are many events in the Lightning theif that aligns with the Hero’s journey.
The Museum is where Percy discovers he is not a mortal , and during the trip his Latin teacher, Chiron, gives Percy a “pen”, which is actually a sword, and fights a monster called the Fury without realizing what the “thing” actually was. After the incident was over, everyone around Percy acts like nothing happened, so Percy pretends that nothing had happened either. Later that day Percy and his mom leaves for the beach, an annual trip that he and his mom always goes on. Throughout the beach trip a massive storm comes and Percy's friend Grover shows up, but not in human form, he shows up in his true mythological form which is a satyr, and tells Sally, Percy’s mom, that it is time to take Percy away now. So Percy, Sally, and Grover are driving to take Percy to the special place and Grover proceeds to tell Percy that everything he practically knows is a lie, that greek mythology actual does exist, that he’s a demigod, and that he is not safe where he currently is and has to go to Camp Half-Blood.
Percy is also brave, smart, and courageous, but he is also strong and caring. Percy’s main objective in the story is to get out of the underworld and stop a Roman vs Greek battle. The book has many characters with very different personalities. The book has unexpected twists and turns throughout it. The novel involves kidnappers, a dragon and (of course) the 5 children from Miami that know nothing about what they’re getting into. This book started out as, a fairly normal story.
Percy Jackson, the main character in The Lightning Thief ,is following the path of the hero in “Hero’s journey” On Percy’s life a teacher has become his mentor. In the Lightning Thief Percy says “But Mr.Brunner expected me to be as good as everybody else, despite the fact that I have dyslexia and attention deficit disorder and I had never made above a C- in my life” In this quote, percy expresses his feelings on how he is frustrated with himself and his teacher. In hero's journey a quote shows about mentors, “Heroes are almost started on their journey by a character who has mastered the laws of the outside world and come back to bestow this wisdom upon them.” That is how The Lightning Thief is compared to hero's journey.

Percy Jackson and the lightning thief is about the offspring of poseidon and a mortal, going on a quest with his friends to find Zeus’ missing lightning bolt. The bolt went missing and Percy Jackson is accused of taking it. This is an excellent book that was made into a film. Though the film was good it was very different from the book.

Rick Riordan 's novel, The Lightning Thief, can be effectively interpreted through Joseph Campbell 's Hero Cycle analytical tool. In utilizing this tool, the theme of Percy 's evolving leadership capabilities is brought to attention. In the preliminary events of the novel, Percy is clearly uncomfortable and uncertain of his newfound leadership position. But, as he and his friends, Annabeth and Grover, endure the trials that they encounter, Percy becomes increasingly a more effective and all around better leader. By applying the Hero Cycle, we can understand The Lightning Thief as a description of the evident evolution of Percy 's, leadership through the tests and challenges he endures.

Percy is born into the hero’s cycle at his natural birth and his call to adventure is the attack by Mrs. Dodds. Percy crosses the threshold, when he leaves Montauk with his mother and Grover and the first trial testing his leadership is on the bus with the furies. Trials exemplifying Percy’s growth include: the furies, Medusa, the Saint Louis Arch, the “Waterland” Waterpark, the Lotus Hotel, Crusty’s Waterbed Palace, and Hades and the Underworld.
