Introduction: Women in Canada and all around the world have faced many challenges and barriers now and historically and will continue to do so if nothing is done to prevent the rising issue. Women play a significant role in the world and make many impacts on the world and the economy. There are currently many women who are considered to be leaders and influencers. Women are now given a seat at the table in higher-level jobs. But as these changes continue to happen, there are still many things women face. Women of different backgrounds face different barriers, such as women in the indigenous community, black and racialized women, women part of the LGBTQ community, and women with disabilities. They are also allowed to run for higher positions, such as becoming judges. Statistics show that the number of women who were federally appointed as judges in Canada has increased from 43.8% as of October 1, 2021, to 45.3% as of October 1, 2022. But there are still many barriers that women face in their daily lives regarding poverty and housing needs. Many women now also don’t have the same opportunities and success in the workplace as men. Statistics Canada from 2022 show that 89 cents of what women work full-time and part-time is equivalent to every dollar men make in the same amount of time. Along with this workplace issue, women also face leadership issues and are not able to achieve high success in their career. In many political and professional leadership opportunities, women are still underrepresented. Six out of ten women say that sometimes it is hard for them to picture themselves as leaders. There is a lack of diverse perspectives. Women in the workplace are now affected by the glass ceiling effect, a term to express the social barrier preventing women from being promoted to a top job in their career. It gives a woman more options, it can help women leave abusive relationships, and it can give single women the ability to support their children.
