The Mongoose and the cobra are deadly enemies and fight to the death. The book Rikki-Tikki-Tavi and the movie are related and unrelated in different ways.They are similar and different in the setting, characters, and how Rikki-Tikki kills the snakes.
The characters are the same because in the book there is Nag, Nagaina, Karait, Darzee and his wife, Chuchundra, Rikki-Tikki, Mother, Father, Teddy. In the movie there is Nag, Nagaina, Karait, Darzee and his wife, Chuchundra, Rikki-Tikki, Mother, Father, and Teddy. Teddy is the son of the mother and father in both the movie and thee book. Nag and Nagaina and both king cobras that try to kill the family and Rikki-Tikki. Darzee and his wife are tailorbirds in the book and the movie. The background information in the book states that “This story takes place in India many years ago, when the British ruled that huge country. The family in this story lives in a cantonment (kan TAHN muhnt), which is a kind of army base. The father is in the British army” (Kipling, 143).The movie also states that “ This is the story of a great war, that Rikki-Tikki-Tavi fought single-handed thru the bathrooms of the big bungalow in Segoli cantonment in India” (Movie). When Nag enters the bathroom to kill the big man, Rikki-Tikki jumps on Nags neck and kills him. Nagaina’s eggs are located in the melon patch in the movie and the book. When Nagaina is about to kill Teddy, Rikki-Tikki takes the last of Nagaina’s eggs to bait her away from the family. After that, Rikki-Tikki is dragged into Nagaina’s nest but defeats her on her own
