The Rise of the Automobiles
Throughout the early 20th century to today, automobiles or powered vehicles on four wheels have been becoming a huge success in America. Starting with Ford, other automobile companies such as GM and Chrysler have sprouted in the U.S. These automobiles are changing the face of America along with what people want to buy to get where they want to go. Will Ford be able to continue producing its Model T and still be competitive enough towards other brands or will they crumble due to price? For certain, Ford is facing many different opponents that are very competitive, and they are not willing to easily give up. A quadricycle is a four wheeled vehicle that is powered usually by pedals. As time continues onward and Henry Ford builds, troubleshoots, and tests more models of his quadricycle with a power supply, he comes up with a powered automobile that contains a four cylinder engine. He later says, “Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is probably the reason why so few engage in it.” This automobile was later named the Model T, which had four seats and only came in the color black. It had three main pedals which were the clutch, reverse, and brake that made the Model T move. The Model T was often called the “Tin Lizzie” because it was very noisy and bouncy, but it was claimed to be indestructible. Most fixes to the car could be done with simple objects such as chewing gum or hair pins. Founded in September of 1908 in Flint, Michigan, General Motors is divided into five main divisions, which are Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Buick, Cadillac, and finally the GMC line. Starting with the lowest luxury automobile that is most equivalent to Ford, it is the Chevrolet brand. This brand released their first car around 20 years ago, which was named the “Classic Six.” This automobile was priced at $2,500, which at this time didn’t affect Ford since their cars at the time were around $800. Louis Chevrolet made a courageous quote of determination after learning that his Classic Six automobile was indeed a fail. ”I am the successor, not of Louis XVI, but of Charlemagne.” With his determination in mind, Louis and William C. Durant built two new cars in 1914 which were called the “Royal Mail Roadster” and the “Baby Grand.” These cars were part of Chevrolet’s “Series H” that was designed to compete against the Model T. These two cars were very special because they were Chevrolet’s first cars that were sold for under $1,000. They were starting to out class the Model T, which was lacking key customization options that consumers wanted. For example, Series H cars offered a three speed transmission, which was a huge improvement to Ford’s transmission. They also offered many different colors and body styles to help increase interest throughout the public. After the Series H cars
