The roaring 20’s is one of the most memorable times in history. They finally got the 19th amendment passed, giving way to a rise in jobs and wages. Women also got the right to a different type of freedom in their relationships. They pushed the boundaries for how women acted and dressed in the public eye. Women in the 1920’s started a revolution for women everywhere. At the beginning of the 20’s, only 15% white and 30% black women held wage-earning jobs (Women in the 1920s in North Carolina). However, when the 19th amendment got passed, the job market opened up more for the single ladies. The married women tended to stay in the house due to the fact that the men of the house still earned the wages. Segregation was still a big deal back then, so many black women only got hired as child-care workers (Women in the 1920s in North Carolina). Women now had the job opportunities of working out of the women job norm, like being teachers and social workers. There was a play called The Captain talked about lesbian relationships and led to the skepticism of the max age two ladies can stay together without the suspicion of what might be going on ("Working and Voting -- Women in the 1920s"). However, women could file for divorce if there was adultery, fraud, conviction for a felony, and other reasons.
