In The Great Gatsby we see this all too well with Nick Carraway as the narrator of the story as he tells of his perspective on the events that take place in the story, we will also get to see why the roaring 20s also called the Gilded Age of how the rich are not as happy as they seem. For example, one of the great things we get to see in the book is the explanation of Easter egg in New York and how New York is a prosperous and thriving city. The tall skyscrapers, luxury buildings and Easter egg the old money has been there for generations. Often of the rich who owned great business empires and sandwiched between the middle of these two prosperous places with a place called the Valley of Ashes. Valley passion symbolizes the underbelly of the golden city above of many poor people who supported the rich. Therefore as Nick narrators this story it described as a place where upset and hopelessness and despair have people working just to live another day. Even so just as a fire sweep through a forest or a storm as powerful as a hurricane comes through even in the ashes and the unthinkable winds destroy everything around you, you always find new life in the form of a sapling coming through the ash and from the rainwater brings life to the land and growing back stronger and healthier. This is why I think Nick is the one to benefit from this the most as he will be the one that outlived the storm, and we'll grow back stronger and wiser than he was before. In midst of all this great wealth the people that seem to be the happiest may be some of the most unhappy people. Nick when through this time in New York in the 1920s, it also symbolizes this time period of all wealth, and parties along with all the lies and the deception.
