Robert E Lee Robert E. Lee (1897-70) Known for his accomplishments in the Mexican and Civil wars, He was born in Stanford hall, Virginia on January 19th, 1807. He Graduating west point 1829 second in his class. After graduating, he went on to serve for 32 years in the United States Army. Leaving his family at his father laws plantation he went on to pursue his military career. His devotion to the military moved him from Savannah, St. Louis, New York. In 1846, Lee got what he had been waiting for when Mexico and the United States went to war. Lee served under General Winfield Scott. Throughout the war, Lee showed the ones around him that he was courageous and of highly capable military mind. When the war was won Lee was showered in praise by his commander. Including that if the U.S. goes to war again, it should be considered that a life insurance policy be placed on Lee. After returning home Lee struggled with the slow, boring tasks of running his wife's family's plantation. For two long years he struggled with making it profitable again. In October 1859, Lee was summoned by John Brown to end a slave insurrection at Harper’s Ferry. Lee, an iconic figure, a great man, and one of the greatest military leaders in history. The question of choosing the south and his home state Virginia or the country that he stood as a leader for 30 years. Is he a hero for the deeds he did, or a traitor for fighting against our great land? My sources for my research will be from web sites, Documentary videos, movies, books, journals, and bibliographies. The methods I will use is to read, watch, and cross reference looking for similarities and differences in what they're saying. My timeline for the research my project consists through the week for the next 13 weeks is conducted at minimum at least one hour of reading or watching videos; 20 minutes of cross referencing and adding onto mu full paper. I will be visiting the library on September 20th 27th and October 13th the rest of my research will be done at home or with my partner at set times that we make throughout the year. I will be updating the discussion board monthly on my progress and if needed my timeline. Robert E. Lee accomplished a lot in his life. I would like to go deeper into how Robert E. Lee is viewed today vs yesterday weather he is considered a traitor for what he did or if we can look at him and see that he choose the people of his home rather than the country.
