Lee: Civil War Project Today the Civil War is a major event in our nation, but what would our nation be like today if a powerful significant person like General Robert E. Lee wasn’t part of the Civil War? Before the Civil War started, Robert E. Lee was born and raised in Westmoreland County, Virginia, and was the son of General Henry Lee III, who was the governor of Virginia. Lee started his was career when he realized and saw himself as an amazing person in war just like his family. This army became one of the most successful armies in all of the Confederate Armies. Lee’s army was so successful from all of his smart soldiers and amazing plans to attack. This army even had some of the most amazing and heartening people like James Longstreet one of best generals in the confederate army, Stonewall Jackson one of the best confederate generals, and J.E.B. Stuart who a Confederate States army general. Lee’s army beat and outsmarted most of their opponents. This embarrassed their opponents generals no matter what happened. A confederate officer was in hold of the plans when he accidentally left the plans attached to three cigars at the Confederates campsite. Once the Union troops came across the campsite of course the Union found the plans and knew what was going to happen to them. The plans that were found helped the Union stop and beat Lee. The Union did as what the Confederates thought they would do and went near a place called present day Sharpsburg, Maryland. That’s where the two army’s fought and turned out to be one of the bloodiest battles in the Civil War and the American history and another win for the Union.
In June of 1863 he decided to start another attack on the north at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Lee attacked the Union very hard with everyone being very competitive. The Confederate war was at its highest on July 3, 1863 when Lee was in war with Virginians who were controlled by George E. Pickett. This attack was soon known as Pickett's charge. This battle ended up failing and Lee made his army retreat. Lee took the blame for the loss and wrote Jefferson Davis a letter asking him to resign, which Davis didn’t
