Gordon S. Wood, “the preeminent historian of the Revolution”, is a well known American historian who has received several awards such as the Pulitzer and Bancroft Prize for his historical books. In his book, The American Revolution: A History, he breaks down the key events based on his experiences and knowledge on the Revolutionary period. Wood was born in Concord, Massachusetts on November 27,1933. Wood teaches at many liberal renowned universities such as Brown, Cambridge, Northwestern , and Harvard. Now being eighty one years old, he recently retired from Brown University and lives in Providence, Rhode Island.
There have been many prominent leaders that have molded America into what it is today, Lee is one of them. Robert E. Lee was born in Virginia, January 19, 1807, although one historian believes has was born one year earlier (Wikipedia.com 1). Little is actually known about his childhood, and Lee scarcely mentioned it as an adult. His father, Henry “Light Horse” Lee, left him and his family at a young age and never returned. In 1825, Robert E. Lee attended West Point and graduated second in his class in 1829.
January 12, 1807 Robert Edward Lee was born in Stratford,Virginia to Henry Lee and Anne Lee. He was a super adventurous child . Most of the time he wandered off into space when he convinced his mom he wouldn’t. During the harsh Civil War, Edward led the Southern forces from 1861 to 1865.And, for those years even though he had barely any soldiers he still fought through it .He also had not to much money for supplies they won many victories.
Before and after the Civil War, people loved and respected Robert E. Lee. Not because of the side he fought for, but because he was an honorable man with strong beliefs; as a general he was a fatherly leader his soldiers looked up to; and he was a very clever tactician. Although Lee fights for the Confederacy, many people greatly revered him, even to this day. Robert E. Lee showed how honorable he was when he chose to fight for his home state of Virginia over the United States. He joined the Confederacy because his “mother” state would be fighting with the Confederacy.

Basically in this novel, the Meeker family is torn apart by this war. Sam Meeker comes home from college wearing a uniform to tell his father that he needs to borrow the families’ brown bess to be in the American Revolutionary Army. The family has a huge argument about Sam not asking before he enlisted in the army. The Meeker family owns a tavern in Redding.
The United States was created from the leading battles of the Continental Army in the American Revolution; Europe’s greatest nation of the time at war with its own people. The abuse of power by the king of Great Britain had angered the colonist to fight for their rights as citizens, this lead to the Declaration of Independence and the American Revolution. As the troops of the American and British soldiers fought during the war what strengths and weaknesses influenced the win of the American soldiers? During the American Revolution, the American and British soldiers demonstrated clear strengths and weaknesses, which impacted the American troops’ victory.
It would have been difficult to understand what the colonies and the British were going through during the revolution. I understand why people, such as, John Dickinson were conflicted when it came to American independence. To add to your reasons why Dickinson felt the way he did towards American independence, Dickinson felt the best thing for the colonies was to form an alliance with Great Britain. He felt one day “provinces would rise up against provinces and cities against cities,” to fight a common enemy, which would result the colonies to resort back to Britain, even though we once rejected them. In addition, he felt that separating us would give us dependence and not independence.
There were many goals that the colonists had in waging the Revolutionary War, and an innumerable amount of those goals contributed to America’s political system. A few of their goals were to convert into a country free of a king, become independent, get rid of all loyalists, equal rights between men and women, and slaves wanted to be freed. A great deal of these goals were accomplished, although they were not very easy to carry out. “The nearer any government approaches to a republic the less business there is for a king,” (Document 1). One of the colonists’ main goals was to be free of the king of England.
The Battle of Valley Forge was the turning point of the Revolutionary War. Although no actual military battle was waged here, George Washington’s Continental Army faced some physical and mental battles of their own in this Pennsylvania town. It was here at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania where the Continental Army Soldiers of the Revolutionary War chose to go after being defeated in the Battle of Germantown in October 1777. During this winter, Washington’s troops came to this encampment to recuperate and train for future battles with the British.

Britain's inability to establish authority over her colonies after the 7 Years War led the colonist to feel they were independent from British rule. When British government tried to reinstate British laws over the colonies, many citizens felt that it wasn’t fair. Many small events sparked multiple major causes that led America to want separate from Great Britain. Among those causes were protection of religious freedom, the taxes that resulted because of the French and Indian War, and Salutary Neglect. These causes led the Americans to victory after they entered the war because they understood the consequences if they didn’t win.
Robert E. Lee’s (1807-1870) contribution to the United States as a war general and commander received positive connotations for his commitment, attitude and inspiration on the battlefield. However, it is debateable about his contributions because of Robert Lee’s association in the Civil War (1861-1865) to the Confederate Army that fought for the Southern States. Robert Lee lead many successful campaigns and battles including the following; helping defeat Mexican armies that lead to U.S land gains and westward expansion, battles against a more powerful army in the Civil War. Despite these achievements Lee’s loyalty for the Confederate Army that fought to uphold slavery undermines his success and is highly debateable about whether his contribution is justified or not. Robert Lee’s contributions to his nation begin before the Civil War in the Mexican-American War (1846-1848).
General Robert E. Lee was an aristocrat. Unlike Grant, Lee was from Virginia and was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Lee was born into wealth. He liked property and rich people. Lee considered himself a relation to his region.
