Robert Frost
Before Robert Frost published his 180 poems, before he won his 4 pulitzer prizes and before he was the father of 6 children, Frost lived a very difficult life. This paper will cover Frost’s life and two of his most famous pieces of work.
Robert Lee Frost was born on March 26, 1874 in San Francisco, California to journalist William Prescott Frost and mother Isabelle Moodie. His father descended from England, while his mother was of Scottish descent. Robert Frost’s father was a teacher and an editor of the San Francisco Evening Bulletin. His father would eventually die on May 5, 1885 due to tuberculosis, leaving the family with only 8$. After his return he would propose to Elinor again, but this time was different, she was graduated and she agreed to marry him, they would go on to marry in Lawrence on December 1895. In September 1896 Elinor would give birth to their first son Elliott. A year later Frost borrowed money from his grandfather to attend Harvard to study liberal arts, but just two years later he dropped out to move back to Lawrence where Elinor was pregnant with their second child. In the spring of 1899 Elinor would give birth to their second child and their first daughter Lesley. The Frost family was very familiar with tragedies, he grew up with an alcoholic father and a depressed mother, he also suffered from the effects of mental illness himself. Robert Frost had to admit his sister Jeanie to a mental hospital in 1920, and shortly after the birth of their second child, there 4 year old son Elliot died of Cholera. Following the death of Elliot, Frost moved his family to a farm in Derry, New Hampshire, that was purchased by his grandfather before he died. Robert and Elinor would attempt to start a life there for the next 10 plus years. This was a great time for Frost’s writing career but a very
